Established by Beverley A. and Jeffrey S. Evans
Betty Boop (2021-2023) was a courageous Rascal Trooper who fought and persevered through severe health adversities during her short life.
Betty was caught as an eight-week old tuxedo kitten by Beverley Evans on July 4, 2021. Before capture she developed fatty polyps in her ears causing her to go deaf. The polyps soon grew into her throat causing her great difficulties with eating and breathing. She went through two operations in late 2021 to remove the growing polyps. These operations were dangerous because she weighed less than three pounds, possibly the smallest kitten to ever survive this operation.
Then in April 2022 Betty was diagnosed with feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). After an 84-day treatment of daily injections/pills she was declared FIP free on June 28.
Her final battle came with feline lymphoma on February 7, 2023. She developed a tumor in her chest cavity which did not respond to chemotherapy and on March 30, Beverley and Jeffrey had to make the difficult decision to let Betty cross the rainbow bridge. She took her last breath cradled in Jeffrey’s arms.
The Evanses have donated $10,000 to establish this memorial fund at Cat’s Cradle to assist with spay/neuter and other health costs of feral and underprivileged cats in the central Shenandoah Valley. Jeff Evans commented, “We see this as a yearly fundraiser to benefit Cat’s Cradle’s important mission to ensure and maintain a safe, compassionate community for cats in the Shenandoah Valley, and as a way to ensure other cats have the same fighting chance to life that we were able to give our dear Betty.”
