Beating the Heat with Your GENEROUS Support
The 2020 Beat the Heat campaign came on the heels of two impressive years of donations. In 2018, you all donated $18,000, and 2019 brought in $19,000. For 2020, we wanted to continue that trend and set the goal at $20,000. Well, we were floored by this year’s final total. Not only did you help us secure the wonderful Jackie Zehring’s $10,000 matching money, you blew right past this year’s target to raise a whopping $31,131.87!! Me-WOW! Thank you SO MUCH for your awe-inspiring support. You replenished our depleted spay/neuter fund, and these donations will go a long way toward preventing unwanted litters this Spring and Summer.
Back in February when we rolled out this year’s Beat the Heat, no one could imagine the devastating impact Covid-19 would have on the world, and Cat’s Cradle is doing everything it can to sustain services like our spay/neuter program. But given our new reality, the regular donations we get receive throughout the year have slowed to a trickle, and we’ve had to close our PetSmart center, our Downtown Center, and suspend our new Coffee and Cats venture in response to the Governor’s Executive Orders. To offset lost revenue, we’ve applied for a Payroll Protection Program loan and are seeking other emergency grants, but this is a brutal time for us in the non-profit world, and the future is hazy.
We are doing everything we can to preserve our Beat the Heat fund for its intended purpose, and hopefully the loans and grants we’ve applied for will provide a much-needed lifeline. But we may find ourselves in a pinch just to keep the lights on or to pay the other bills which haven’t stopped coming in. If we can’t stay on top of operating expenses, we would be forced to limit our services. So, while we hope it doesn’t come to it, we may need to dip into Beat the Heat money just to stay afloat. Just know that we want to be as transparent as we can with what’s going on and that Cat’s Cradle is dedicated to using your money where it will have the greatest impact.
With that said, you all rock. We can’t thank you enough for your outpouring of generosity and support, and we hope we can still count on you as we traverse these rough waters together.
Stay safe out there!
